CHANGSHA, June 18 (CNS) — Following its continued expansion in Southeast Asia, the Changsha International Construction Equipment Exhibition (CICEE) is extending its global footprint to the African continent. On June 17, the 2026 Changsha International Construction Equipment Exhibition — Africa Edition officially opened in Nairobi, Kenya.
The exhibition generated significant trade and economic results, with signed contracts reaching a total value of US$189.4 million. Cooperation covered multiple sectors, including construction machinery procurement, the promotion of new energy vehicles, and collaboration on intelligent equipment, helping Hunan-based construction machinery companies establish a stronger presence in Africa's emerging markets.

Covering an exhibition area of 15,000 square meters, the Africa Edition featured multiple specialized exhibition zones and attracted more than 300 companies from China and overseas.
Leading Chinese construction machinery manufacturers, including XCMG, SANY Heavy Industry and Zoomlion, made their presence felt at the event. Drawing on local African operating conditions, the companies showcased customized and upgraded products designed to meet the region's infrastructure development needs.
In response to Africa's high temperatures, heavy dust, challenging road conditions and special fuel conditions, exhibitors carried out targeted upgrades to improve equipment performance and adaptability.
XCMG brought seven key machines to the exhibition, with a focus on enhanced dust protection, heat dissipation and power performance to meet the demands of complex outdoor working environments in Africa.
SANY Heavy Industry showcased four core equipment models, highlighting their advantages in operating efficiency, energy conservation, reduced fuel consumption and long-duration continuous operation.
Zoomlion presented 10 customized products covering earthmoving, lifting equipment, agricultural machinery and other categories. Featuring flexible multi-purpose capabilities, these products are designed to serve construction projects and agricultural operations of different scales across Africa.
Since launching its overseas expansion strategy in 2023, CICEE has continued to pursue a development path of “deepening its presence in neighboring markets while reaching the global market.”
Previously, three consecutive editions of the CICEE Southeast Asia Edition were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The events have accumulated a total exhibition area of more than 30,000 square meters, attracted over 360 exhibitors, and generated more than RMB 2 billion in sales, becoming an important bridge for Chinese construction machinery companies seeking to expand into the Southeast Asian market.
Africa is currently accelerating its industrialization and infrastructure development and has become one of the emerging markets with the greatest growth potential for the global construction machinery industry.
According to available data, Africa's annual infrastructure investment amounts to approximately US$130 billion to US$170 billion, while its dependence on imported construction equipment exceeds 90%. Demand for equipment renewal, replacement and new purchases remains strong, creating substantial opportunities for market growth.
Backed by a strong industrial foundation, Hunan's construction machinery exports have maintained strong momentum.
Statistics show that exports of construction machinery-related products from Hunan increased from RMB 16.37 billion in 2022 to RMB 31.76 billion in 2025, representing a 94% increase over four years. During the first two months of 2026, Hunan's construction machinery exports to Africa surged 77% year on year, making Africa an increasingly important source of growth for Hunan companies expanding overseas.
Guests attending the event said that East Africa has enormous potential in infrastructure development, mining and modern agriculture. They expressed expectations that the exhibition would help deepen practical industrial cooperation between China and Kenya, facilitate the continued introduction of advanced Chinese construction machinery technologies and equipment, and encourage more Hunan construction machinery companies to invest and develop their businesses in Africa for mutually beneficial cooperation.
The exhibition, an important step in CICEE's global expansion strategy, was jointly organized by the Kenya Investment Authority, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the CICEE Organizing Committee.
More than 1,300 professional buyers attended the event for business negotiations and procurement matchmaking. Buyers from 15 African countries, including Nigeria, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda, participated in the event. Kenyan engineering and mining procurement alliances also organized delegations to attend, creating an active atmosphere for supply-and-demand matchmaking.
According to the organizers, the exhibition has established a stable network of African buyers and procurement resources for the 5th Changsha International Construction Equipment Exhibition in 2027, further strengthening the international reputation and global industry profile of “Changsha Construction Machinery.”
